Is North Korea in the Paris Climate Agreement

The Paris Climate Agreement is a landmark global agreement aimed at addressing the issue of climate change. It was adopted by 196 countries at COP21 in Paris, France, in December 2015. The agreement seeks to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, with the ultimate goal of limiting it to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

North Korea`s participation in the Paris Climate Agreement has been a topic of some debate in recent years. There have been conflicting reports on whether or not the country is a signatory to the agreement.

According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), North Korea is not currently a signatory to the Paris Climate Agreement. In fact, as of this writing, the only country that has not signed onto the agreement is the United States, which withdrew from it in 2017.

Despite not being a signatory to the agreement, North Korea has been taking some steps to address climate change. The country`s national strategy for economic development, which was adopted in 2016, includes provisions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting renewable energy.

In addition, North Korea has participated in some international efforts to address climate change. The country was a participant in the Copenhagen climate negotiations in 2009, and it sent a delegation to the UN Climate Change Conference in Marrakech in 2016.

However, North Korea`s overall record on environmental issues is not stellar. The country has been criticized for its heavy reliance on coal and other fossil fuels, which contribute to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, deforestation and other forms of environmental degradation are significant problems in the country.

In conclusion, North Korea is not currently a signatory to the Paris Climate Agreement. However, the country has expressed some commitment to addressing climate change, and it has participated in some international efforts to do so. Nonetheless, there is still much work to be done to address the challenges of climate change in North Korea and around the world.
